Most sparkling wine takes itself too seriously. It gets saved for occasions that never arrive, poured in measures too small to enjoy, and treated like something to admire rather than drink. We thought it deserved better. So we set out to make a sparkling wine with energy, personality, and a story actually worth telling, then went looking for the opposite of ordinary and bottled it.

Every bottle starts in the Stellenbosch vines, where Matthew Krone, a twelfth generation winemaker, knows exactly which grapes are worth picking and which are better left where they are. Real fruit, real method, no shortcuts. We make it the proper way, then add the part most sparkling wine forgets entirely: a bit of character. And we are not precious about how you drink it. Van Hunks is made to be opened, not kept for a someday that never comes. Pour it on a Tuesday. Drink it in a robe. Leave the occasion talk to someone else. If it puts a glass in your hand and a grin on your face, it is doing its job.

As for the name, that would be Jan van Hunks. Pipe in one hand, glass of something sparkling in the other, forever wandering off into the fynbos because the day felt like it and no better reason was needed. He never went looking for the ordinary, so he never found it. That is the spirit we bottled, and the one we pour.
